Montpellier is the 'Grande Dame' of southern France; historic (it's been a city for over 1,000 years), wealthy, cultured, modern and forward looking. The statues in the photograph are two of five statues of Roman gods surfacing from the fountain in the Place de la Comedie, to suddenly discover that they've arrived in a modern city. That seems so typical of the exuberant spirit of Montpellier.

Another view of the Place de la Comedie, the heart of Montpellier; an ideal place for one of France's favourite activities – people watching.
